U.S. Marines and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force personnel teamed up for this year’s Active Shield training on Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. Lance Cpl. Military working dogs have been a crucial part of military operations since World War I. The selection and training process for military working dogs is extensive and rigorous; only the best are chosen to be a part of America’s fighting forces. Once they make it through training, they provide an auxiliary asset to military law enforcement units, to include drug detection, explosive detection or escalation of force support. Training is conducted on a daily basis to keep them sharp for future operations.

Lutyo is a military working dog aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. Besides being one of the best drug detection dog aboard the station, Lutyo enjoys his down time.

Col. Reginald L. Hairston took command of Security and Emergency Services Battalion in July 2015. It was his first time with a SES Battalion but with 26 years of experience in the Marine Corps, as enlisted and an officer, he knows how to get the job done.

Marines with the Camp Pendleton Provost Marshal's Office patrol the base to keep residents safe.
