U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Capt. Nelson J. Baker, visits Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 364, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, Calif., Jan. 30, 2026. Baker is a plank holder of VMM-364 and served as one of the squadron’s first pilots when it was activated as Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM) 364 in 1961. Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 364, Purple Foxes, redesignated to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 364 during a change of command and redesignation ceremony aboard Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, Calif., Oct. 9. The unit transformed platforms from the CH-46 Sea Knight to the MV-22 Osprey. This was the last CH-46 squadron in the Marine Corps. Lt. Col. John Field relinquished command of the squadron to Lt. Col. Paul Kopacz.

Marines with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 364 "Purple Foxes" returned from an eight-month deployment with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Hundreds of Marines from all over Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39 returned in dozens of aircraft. The homecoming marked a historic event ending the final deployment of CH-46E Sea Knights.
