Each year, the U.S. Marine Corps recognizes high-achieving young men and women from across the country to represent their teams, schools and communities as Semper Fidelis All-Americans. These elite student-athletes and their mentors join civic, business and military leaders each summer during the Battles Won Academy - the culminating event of the year-long program. The Battles Won Academy is an opportunity for the Marine Corps to recognize students who are fighting and winning battles - both on the playing field and off - to make their communities stronger. The program develops skills not only important in sports and school, but throughout life, such as self-confidence, discipline, teamwork and how to hone the fighting spirit. The Battles Won Academy brings together approximately 100 of the country’s top student-leaders for a week in the nation’s capital. The Battles Won Academy is a part of the Marine Corps’ Semper Fidelis All-American Program, which recognizes young men and women who excel in athletics, but have also shown themselves to be leaders in the classroom and in their communities. The program provides Marines with several opportunities to purposefully engage the student leaders and share leadership lessons that will enhance their future success. Nearly 100 high school student-athletes were selected to attend the academy, which ran July 11 -14, 2019 and focused on developing their self-confidence, discipline, teamwork, and honing the fighting spirit that embodies the Marine Corps. Emma Bruntil is recognized as the MaxPreps Athlete of the Month. The United States Marine Corps partners with MaxPreps to congratulate young men and women who stand out positively in their communities. Bruntil, a junior and competitive wrestler at Mt.
