On November 10, 2021 U.S. Marines around the globe celebrate a 246-year legacy of battlefield prowess defined by courage, discipline, loyalty, perseverance, adaptability, leadership, and warfighting innovation. The annual birthday message delivered by the Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. David H. Berger and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Troy Black acknowledges the generation of Marines who joined after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, who later served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and who now approach their retirement milestone. It also highlights the culture of innovation being cultivated by Marine leaders to enable the Marine Corps to remain America’s force in readiness—prepared to fight and win in every clime and place.

U.S. Marines with 3d Marine Logistics Group participate in a Relief and Appointment ceremony on Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 17, 2021. The ceremony is held for Sgt. Maj. Rodger D. Newcomb, the outgoing sergeant major of 3d Marine Logistics Group, and Sgt. Maj. Ryan W. U.S. Marines with the Marine Corps Rifle Team, Weapons Training Battalion, based at Marine Corps Base Quantico, compete in the 2021 National Matches at Camp Perry, Port Clinton, Ohio, Aug. 6, 2021. Sgt. Christopher Williams, was awarded the Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock Trophy, breaking the record set by Master Sgt. Julia Watson in 2013, by one point. The Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock Trophy was added to the National Trophy collection in 2003. The trophy goes to the Marine Corps competitor with the highest score in the aggregate of the Rifle President's 100 Match, The National Trophy Individual Match and the National Trophy Team Match. In honor of Sgt. Amanda N. Brazeal assigned to Marine Corps Embassy Security Group Region 2, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group Headquarters, Quantico, Virginia and former Marine Musician of The Parris Island Marine Band.

Staff Sgt. Louis A. Bourdony, a small arms repair technical instructor, is the recipient of the 2020 Instructor of the Year award for Marine Detachment Fort Lee, Va. This award embodies the culmination of character, work ethic, and personal accomplishment within the detachment and the Marine Corps as a whole. Through his efforts, Staff Sgt.
