Exercise Cobra Gold 2018 officially began with remarks from Pacific Command representative Lieutenant General Lawrence Nicholson, III Marine Expeditionary Force commanding general, U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand Ambassador Glyn Davies and General Thanchaiyan Srisuwan, Chief of Defense Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces. Cobra Gold 18 provides a venue for both United States and partner nations to advance interoperability and increase partner capacity in planning and executing complex and realistic multinational force and combined task force operations. Navy Lieutenant Nii Adjel Oninku, a Dayton, Ohio native, stages blood units from Okinawa, Japan at local host nation support hospitals for Exercise Cobra Gold 2018. The blood is stored for U.S. service members in the event they are injured during the exercise. After the exercise the remaining donated blood will be given to the local hospitals to use at their discretion.
