Marines Storm the Shore for the 2017 Recon Challenge

The Recon Challenge is a 25-mile endurance course where Recon Marines aboard Camp Pendleton, California endure a myriad of challenges and tests in the basic fundamentals of being a Reconnaissance Marine. From hiking through roughly 15 miles of difficult terrain with 50 pounds of gear, to a grueling 2,000 meter swim to shore from the icy Pacific Ocean, Marines are presented with a number of challenges along the way, including obstacle courses, weapons firing and operations, and swim tactics. A total of 27 two-man teams competed this year, each team wearing the name of a fallen recon Marine on their packs. (U.S. Marine Corps Video by LCpl. Dylan Chagnon/Released)

3rd Annual Ultimate Tactical Athlete Competition Preliminary

Marine Corps Community Services held a preliminary event for the 3rd Annual High Intensity Tactical Training Tactical Athlete Competition, which are taking place across the Marine Corps. There were seven competitors from across Okinawa, three females and four males who competed June 23 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. The top male and female competitors will be sent to the championship event aboard Camp Pendleton, California.

MCCS Cherry Point hosts Battle Challenge

Marine Corps Community Services Cherry Point hosted the Battle Challenge on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., March 23-24, 2017. Teams assigned to various units on MCAS Cherry Point signed up to compete against each other in the timed event. The challenge included an obstacle course where competitors had to climb a cargo net, jump over a seven-foot wall, negotiate monkey-bars, carry 45 pound jugs, and drag a 200 pound dummy to the finish line.
