Lexus Martinez, a food service specialist with Headquarters Regiment, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, shares how she recovered from homelessness, natural disaster and poverty to being a United States Marine dedicated to uplifting everyone she meets. Martinez, a Brooklyn native, and her family were victims of Hurricane Sandy in 2012. She says the experience makes her remember that life is short, so she lives her life like every day might be her last day to inspire someone around her. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts in New York

This is a documentary production on the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) supporting Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in New York. This production has been created using footage compiled from CNN, royalty-free music, and interviews from the citizens of New York. The Marines and Sailors from the 26th MEU helped local residents by removing debris left from the hurricane and provided assistance with anything they could, including pumping water from heavily flooded areas and helping clear away collapsed housing. The 26th MEU operates continuously across the globe, providing the president and unified combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, sea-based quick reaction force. The MEU is a Marine Air-Ground Task Force capable of conducting amphibious operations, crisis response, and limited contingency operations. The 26th MEU is slated to deploy in 2013.
