U.S. Marines with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, participate in a simulated air assault and decontamination during Steel Knight 2019 (SK19) on Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif., Dec. 05, 2018. SK19 is an annual training exercise and assesses the 1st Marine Division’s ability to conduct ground combat operations against a peer or near-peer adversary. A Gold Star Mother is a mother who has lost her son or daughter in the line of duty while in the U.S. Armed Forces. Gold Star Mother’s day is an American holiday observed on the last Sunday of September. Mother's Day is a national holiday that is celebrated by honoring mothers around the United States. Anna Jarvis, the "mother" of Mother's Day, first celebrated the holiday in 1908 when she held a memorial for her mother at St. Andrews Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia.
