U.S., Bulgarian, Romanian Forces Overcome Mountains

British Royal Marine Commandos, Romanian Mountain Brigade soldiers and U.S. Marines with Black Sea Rotational Force conduct the culminating three-day final exercise during Exercise Platinum Lynx, May 12-14, 2015. The British Royal Marine Commandos conducted reconnaissance of the area in the Carpathian Mountain Range early that morning to support the movement of U.S. Marines into an assault position while the Romanian soldiers conducted the support by fire. Roughly 45 Romanians, 25 U.S. Marines and 13 British Royal Marine Commandos participated in the exercise.

Marines and Sailors with Combat Logistics Battalion 11, 1st Marine Logistics Group, test their operational capacity and capabilities as a logistics and support unit during Mountain Exercise 6-15 at Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport, California. An end of course video production featuring the highlights of Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course 1-16 in Yuma, Ariz., from Sept. 6 to Oct. 25, 2015. WTI is a seven week training event hosted by Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) cadre, which emphasizes operational integration of the six functions of Marine Corps aviation in support of a Marine Air Ground Task Force. Marines and sailors assigned to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, conducted Mountain Warfare Training Exercise 5-15 aboard Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center Bridgeport, Calif., Sept. 7-17, 2015. The high-intensity training covered maneuvering tactically through mountainous terrain using rope climbing and rappelling techniques as well as survival tactics in rugged environments to enhance Marines' and sailors' abilities to fight in austere circumstances.

Sustainment Training in Djibouti

U.S. Marine 1st. Lt. Hunter Harrison speaks about the sustainment training conducted by India Company, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Harrison is a platoon commander with India Co, BLT 3/1. The Marines of BLT 3/1 executed a series of attack and maneuver drills consisting of machine gun, grenade, rocket, squad and night attacks. Elements of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit are ashore in Djibouti for sustainment training to maintain and enhance the skills they developed during their pre-deployment training period. The 15th MEU is currently deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation.
