The Combat Center hosted Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory for Marine Air Ground Task Force Integrated Experiment 2016, July 22 through Aug. 5, as part of Rim of the Pacific Exercise 2016. The experiment, held July 26 through Aug. 5, tested Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Company Landing Team’s ability to operate in an enemy controlled area with limited resources and capabilities while utilizing future tactics, techniques and procedures. The end goal was to explore the extent to which smaller units will require various assets to remain mission effective.

Marine Corps Base Camp Penleton, Calif. (July 13, 2016)—Marines with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment test equipment provided by the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory, July 12-14, 2016 on Camp Pendleton, Calif. The equipment they are testing ranges from unmanned ground and aerial vehicles, new technology in expeditionary medicine, reusable energy and water purifying systems. The Warfighting Labs identifies possible challenges of the future and develops new warfighting concepts and tests new ideas to help develop equipment that meets the challenges of the future operating environment.

Marines with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment test the Multi-Utility Tactical Transport vehicle, or the MUTT, provided by the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory July 9, 2016 on Camp Pendleton, California. The MUTT will be used to help less Marines cover a greater area, provide expeditionary power and to give Marines superior firepower. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif. (July 13, 2016)—Marines with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment test equipment provided by the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory, July 08, 2016. Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2016 is the 25th exercise in the series that began in 1971.

An end of course video production featuring the highlights of Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course 1-16 in Yuma, Ariz., from Sept. 6 to Oct. 25, 2015. WTI is a seven week training event hosted by Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) cadre, which emphasizes operational integration of the six functions of Marine Corps aviation in support of a Marine Air Ground Task Force. MAWTS-1 provides standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications to support Marine aviation training and readiness and assists in developing and employing aviation weapons and tactics.
