All recruits aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island S.C., are required to qualify in water survival. Recruits who fail to qualify on their first attempt are identified as iron ducks. U.S. Marines and sailors stationed across Marine Corps Base Camp Butler and Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Futenma participated in a "Try SCUBA" Program hosted by the Single Marine Program and Tsunami SCUBA at the MCAS Futenma Pool, Okinawa, Japan, Sept. 15, 2021. The program served to introduce service members to scuba equipment and allow them to learn the basics should they want to obtain their scuba licenses.
