Sgt. Nicholas D. Ruiz received a Navy Commendation Medal for the following actions on October 13, 2023. The Kilo Company Drill Instructor observed a SODEXO employee at the recruit mess hall start choking after having a seizure and falling to the ground. Requiring immediate assistance, Sgt. Ruiz recognized the emergency and immediately assessed the situation, cleared the area, and took command of the scene to provide lifesaving aid and stabilized the victim while contacted emergency services.
