We sat down with Sgt. Vanessa Ramirez, a 1371 combat engineer. Ramirez graduated from the rigorous Infantry Training Battalion and earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0351 (Infantry Assaultman). Marines with Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry East go through the 0351 Infantry Assaultman Course on Camp Geiger at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., April to May 2018. The course is nine weeks long focusing on rocket fire in support of rifle squads, platoons and other companies within the infantry battalion. U.S. Marines with Marine Rotational Force Europe 17.1 fight for first place in a squad competition covering 30km of mountainous terrain in Norway. During the competition, Marines were evaluated on their performance in land navigation, calls for fire, squad ambushes, reconnaissance patrols, the orders process, casualty aid, and casualty evacuation.
