U.S. Marines with Combat Logistics Company 36, 3rd Sustainment Group Experimental, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, and Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, participated in Exercise Northern Dragon 25 at Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Camp Nihonbara, Japan, March 14 to March 20, 2025. Aidan Haylett, an automotive technician with 3rd Maintenance Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, explains his unit’s involvement in a combined maintenance subject matter expert exchange alongside Republic of Korea Marines with 1st Logistics Battalion, ROK MLG, as part of the Korean Marine Exchange Program 25.1 at the Pohang Naval Base in Pohang, South Korea, March 14, 2025. The SME exchange allowed for the U.S. and ROK Marines to become familiarized with each other’s vehicles, communications, and weapons, and to perform basic repairs on those systems, allowing for further integration of capabilities in the event of deploying as a combined force. KMEP is an exercise that provides iterative opportunities for ROK Marine Corps and U.S. Marine Corps units to train together, improving their combined capabilities to deter threats and maintain peace on the Korean Peninsula. Marines with 3rd Marine Logistics Group conducted an instream offload operation as part of Freedom Banner 25 at Republic of Korea Marine Corps Base Pohang, South Korea, Feb. 28 through March 1, 2025. The instream offload, a training evolution alongside the U.S. Navy’s Beachmaster Unit 1, the USNS Dahl (T-AKR 312), and the ROKMC Marine Logistics Group, refines and validates 3rd MLG’s ability to transport, offload and distribute vehicles and equipment from ship to shore without the use of a pier. This type of sealift capability allows the unit to maneuver equipment in austere environments without using established infrastructure, such as in locations following a natural disaster. Freedom Banner 25 is a Maritime Prepositioning Force exercise where 3rd MLG offloads equipment and provides support to III Marine Expeditionary Force units training throughout South Korea, testing and validating 3rd MLG’s ability to conduct integrated logistics operations in complex environments. The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing hosted Commander’s Course 2025 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and Naval Base San Diego, California, Feb. 24-26, 2025.
