The Battles Won Academy brings together approximately 100 of the country’s top student-leaders for a week in the nation’s capital. The Battles Won Academy is a part of the Marine Corps’ Semper Fidelis All-American Program, which recognizes young men and women who excel in athletics, but have also shown themselves to be leaders in the classroom and in their communities. The program provides Marines with several opportunities to purposefully engage the student leaders and share leadership lessons that will enhance their future success. Nearly 100 high school student-athletes were selected to attend the academy, which ran July 11 -14, 2019 and focused on developing their self-confidence, discipline, teamwork, and honing the fighting spirit that embodies the Marine Corps. Recruiting Sub Station Myrtle Beach poolee Michael Campofiori explains what he had to overcome to be given a chance to go to Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot Parris Island for the chance to become a U.S. Marine. Campofiori, from Brick Township, N.J., has been wanting to become a Marine ever since he was a child, but at the age of 11, he was diagnosed with Leukemia, a medical condition that threatened not only his possibility of joining the Marine Corps, but his life. U.S. Marines and Canadian Forces soldiers conduct urban combat training during RIMPAC 2012. More than 120 Canadian Forces soldiers with Company A., 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, conducted Military Operations on Urban Terrain (MOUT) training with U.S. Marines from Company C, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, on the island of Oahu during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2012. Approximately 2,200 troops from Canada, the United States and 7 other countries make up the Combined Forces Land Component Command, or CFLCC, which conducts numerous amphibious and land-based operations exercises throughout RIMPAC 2012 in order to enhance multinational and joint interoperability. RIMPAC takes place in and around the Hawaiian Islands and is the world's largest naval exercise, involving more than 25,000 personnel from 22 countries. Soundbites include Cpl.
