More Information
U.S. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion and the Office of Naval Research participated in joint training at Marine Corps Outlying Landing Field Oak Grove, Feb. 28 - March 3, 2022. At the start of the training, the Marines created damage, such as craters and spalls, across the airfield to simulate destruction caused by unexploded ordinance (UXO). Together, the Marines and Office of Naval Research evaluated if their unmanned aircraft systems could scan the airfield and assess the damage quicker and more efficiently than ground personnel. This exercise is in efforts to try and keep as many Marines out of harms way as possible. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Michele Clarke)
