Hafa Adai ladies and gentlemen! Check out this month's installment of the Marine Corps Activity Guam Minute. This month's highlights include the annual cleanup of Asan Beach, and the conclusion of 2018's Toys for Tots.

Capt. Henry T. Elrod became the first American aviator to be awarded the Medal of Honor during World War II due to his efforts in the defense of Wake Island against the Japanese. Elrod shot down two enemy aircraft and became the first man to sink a major warship by small caliber bombs delivered from a fighter-type aircraft. After his plane was disabled by hostile fire, Elrod took control of a flank on the ground in defense of the island and he and his men fought vigorously against the Japanese. On 23 December, Elrod led his men with bold aggressiveness until he fell, mortally wounded. His superb skill as a pilot, daring leadership and unswerving devotion to duty distinguished him among the defenders of Wake Island. He gallantly gave his life for his country. On December 7, 1941, U.S. forces were victim to a surprise attack by the Empire of Japan. This event is considered the thrusting force for the United States to participate in World War II. Ground Combat Element Marines assigned to Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa hone their close-range marksmanships skills during a table 3 alpha course of fire at Morón Air Base, Spain, Dec. 16, 2016. Table three is designed to hone Marines’ skills as riflemen by allowing them to shoot from various distances and firing while moving. These rehearsals keep Marines prepared to answer the call at any time and any place.

U.S. Marines with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct a small-arms training exercise at Range 111 aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., Nov. 25.
