Medal of Honor recipient Major Howard V. Lee

On 8 August, 1966, Major Howard V. Lee of 3rd Marine Division moved rapidly to reinforce a besieged platoon in south Vietnam with seven other Marines in two helicopters, landing in a "hot" zone and scaling up a hill to reach the platoon to help strengthen their men. Wounded by shrapnel, Major V. Lee led the men to continue attacking and calling artillery strikes deep into the night. The Marines fought on until the enemy withdrew. Major Howard V. Lee's heroic actions and expert leadership earned him the Medal of Honor that day. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Logan Foster)

Commanded by a Marine one-star general, Naval Amphibious Force, Task Force 51/5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade (TF 51/5) is the first command structure of its kind since World War II. The integrated U.S. Navy and Marine Corps team works collectively to strengthen partnerships with both naval and special operations forces, build relationships with joint and regional coalition partners and enhance crisis response. TF 51/5’s subordinate forces include: USS Lewis B. Puller, an Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team Central Command (FASTCENT), Security Cooperation Team Jordan (SCT Jordan), Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command (SPMAGTF-CR-CC) and the Emergency Resuscitative Surgery System (ERSS). Utah National Guard, US Marines Lend a Helping Hand to People of Morocco

Members of the Utah National Guard conducted humanitarian/civic assistance operations as part of Exercise African Lion 15, May 17-21 at various locations near Tiznit, Morocco. Medical and dental personnel with the UTNG worked alongside members of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and Tunisian Armed Forces to provide medical and dental care to local Moroccans in need of services. The combined operations emphasizes the strong military bond between the U.S. and it's allies, improves interoperability between nations, building relationships with this key strategic region within the AFRICOM area of responsibility (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. More than 5,000 Marines from the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Forces Reserve participated in Large Scale Exercise 1, Javelin Thrust 2012. The Marine Forces Reserve is the first in a three-part continuum, culminating with a Navy and Marine Corps led amphibious exercise Dawn Blitz in 2012.
