U.S. Marines from Marine Corps Installations-West, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, 1st Marine Division and airmen from the 196th California Air National Guard conducted Operation Wild Buck, to test the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to monitor Camp Pendleton wildlife populations and develop tactics, techniques, and procedures for using UAS during emergency operations on Camp Pendleton California, Dec. 18,2018.There were two different UAS flown during the exercise, RQ-20B Puma which was controlled on the ground at Camp Pendleton, and the second was a high-flying, RQ-9 Reaper, launched from Las Vegas and controlled via satellite link from March Air Reserve Base in Riverside, CA. Both UAS sent back video feeds to Camp Pendleton’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), where installation leadership observed and coordinated the operation. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. U.S. Marines and Sailors with 2nd Marine Logistics Group participated in the first Innovation Bootcamp at Jacksonville, N.C., Dec. 10-14, 2018. The week-long training was facilitated by MD5: Defense Innovation Accelerated, a national security technology accelerator, and 2nd MLG leadership to promote creative and innovative thinking. The course focused on applying human-centered design, problem framing, Lean LaunchPad, Mission Model Canvas, and minimum viable product concept to solve 2nd MLG problems.

The Innovation Challenge calls for Marines to make the Corps better with their ideas. Marines can submit ideas for the, 3rd quarter fiscal year 18, challenge at www.marines.mil/innovate. The purpose of the Innovation Challenge is to solicit innovative ideas from Marines, sailors, and government civilians from across the Marine Corps. Challenge winners will have the opportunity to partner with Headquarters Marine Corps offices in order to make their ideas a reality. Culminating video of Urban Advanced Naval Technology Exercise 2018 (ANTX18). Marines with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, participated in this exercise at Camp Pendleton, Calif., from March 19-23, 2018. The Marines tested next generation technologies to provide the opportunity to assess the operational utility of emerging technologies and engineering innovations that improve the Marine’s survivability, lethality and connectivity in complex urban environments.
