The KC-130J Super Hercules provides assault, air to air refueling, and other offensive support functions. It has capabilities to carry up to 92 people with six pallet positions, giving them the ability to move large quantities of supplies in a short period of time. The KC-130J can carry up to 85,000 pounds of fuel, allowing them to travel farther and be able to refuel other aircraft without landing.

“J” is for Joint Strike Fighter program– The JSF program flies the F-35B Lightning II and is the next generation striking aircraft within the Department of Defense. The F-35 was inducted into 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Feb. 24, 2014 at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. The F-35B supports the Marine Corps' tactical and operational needs for close air support in austere conditions and locations that may be inaccessible to traditional fighters. Thanks to its short takeoff and vertical landing capabilities, the F-35B can operate from expeditionary airfields in remote, non-permissive environments with shorter runways, contributing to the Marine Corps' role as the nation's expeditionary force-in-readiness. Leave a comment below letting us know what other #AviationAcademics you’d like us to cover! -------------------------------------------- “F” is for Forward Arming and Refueling Point – The primary mission of a forward arming refueling point is to provide fuel and ammunition to combat aircraft in a minimal amount of time. A FARP is mobile and expedient and allows for arming and refueling in many different places. FARPs can support both rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft. An average amount of time an aircraft will spend at a FARP is approximately 15 minutes. The U.S. Marine Corps units that conduct FARP operations are Marine Wing Support Squadrons. 2nd MAW has four MWSS squadrons; MWSS-271, 272, 273, and 274.

CMC's intent with this video is to reinforce the White Letter 1-13 he published recently on sequestration, describe the impact of sequester on the Corps, and reassure Marines and their families that while we will face some difficult decisions, the Corps will do everything it can to maintain readiness while keeping faith with our Marines, civilian Marines, and their families.
