On front of hundreds of University of Texas at Austin fans who were at the event and thousands listening in to the pre UT versus Baylor game, Semper Fidelis All-Americans P.J. Mbanasor, Cornerback at Hendrickson High School and Connor Lanfear, Offensive Tackle at Jack C. Hays High School, received their jerseys from Marine Corps Recruiting Station San Antonio Commanding Officer Maj. Matthew Peterson and Staff Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Recruiting Sub Station Austin South Gunnery Sgt. Dario Hernandez. The event took place during the "Real Heroes" segment of 104.9 “The Horn” Radio Gameday Broadcast. Their selection to the Semper Fi Bowl symbolizes the trust and confidence the Marine Corps has in the two athletes to represent the West team said Peterson. “Since 1775 the Marine Corps has been showing our enemies across the world that we are the few and the proud,” said Peterson before presenting them with the jerseys. “So it is appropriate (for us to present these jerseys to you), on behalf of the Marine Corps, as you go across the borders of this great state, to show others that you are the few and the proud out of Texas high school players, which are the best football players in the Nation.” (U.S. Marine Corps Motion Imagery by Sgt. The Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl is a football game hosted by the United States Marine Corps that brings together the top high school senior athletes for a week of leadership seminars, team building exercises and of course physical training.

Like the Marine Corps, the 2014 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl demands quality of character, excellence in education, and proven physical fitness. From Dec. 30, 2013 to Jan. 5, 2014, more than 90 All-American athletes trained with each other and United States Marines to prepare for the bowl game.

Marines and Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl athletes participated in a football clinic for over 80 kids between the ages of 5 and 12 at the Fairfield Family YMCA in Long Beach, Calif., Jan. 3, 2014. The Semper Fidelis Football Program provides an opportunity for the Marine Corps to connect on a personal and local level with players and influencers, demonstrates our commitment to developing quality citizens, and reinforces how our core values of honor, courage and commitment relate to success on and off the field. The Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl will be held on Jan. 5, 2014, at 6 p.m. PST in Carson, Calif., at The StubHub Center and aired live on Fox Sports 1.
