U.S. Marines survive a night in the jungle during training with Royal Brunei Land Force members near Penanjong Garrison, Nov. 15, 2016. This training took place as part of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 16. CARAT 2016 is a nine-country, bilateral exercise series between the United States and Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Timor-Leste. This phase of CARAT focuses on partnerships between the forces of the US and Cambodia, and Brunei. As the premier naval engagement in South and Southeast Asia, CARAT provides a regional venue to address shared maritime security priorities, enhance interoperability among participation forces, and develop key relationships that will serve partner nations for many years to come. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 conquer the Endurance Course Sept. 27 at the Jungle Warfare Training Center, Okinawa, Japan. Training like this is crucial to Marines stationed in Okinawa, as it teaches them how to use their skills to survive in the jungle.

The Modular Amphibious Egress Trainer, also known as the Helo Dunker, teaches Marines water survival techniques in the case of a helicopter crashing over water. Marines with 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance conducted the water survival training at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Sept. 26, 2016 as part as pre-deployment training while attached to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

U.S. Marines and soldiers, Australian Army soldiers, and the People’s Liberation Army soldiers participate in Exercise Kowari, a survival training exercise, at Daly River region, Northern Territory, Australia, on Aug. 27 to Sept. 9.

Marines with Marine Rotational Force – Darwin endure a French Armed Forces Nautical Commando Course at Quartier Gribeauval, New Caledonia, Aug. 15 to Sept. 1, 2016. This marks the first U.S. forces ever to complete the course. The course is a part of Exercise AmeriCal 16, a bilateral training exercise designed to enhance mutual combat capabilities and improve relations between the U.S. Marine Corps and the French Armed Forces. U.S., Thai and Republic of Korea Marines participated in Jungle Survival training Feb. 8, 2016 in Latowan, Thailand. The Marines are part of exercise Cobra Gold 16. CG 16 is the 35th iteration of Cobra Gold which provides a joint and combined task force venue to maintain readiness, while emphasizing security and humanitarian cooperation in the Pacific .
