U.S. military members gather in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands for exercise Valiant Shield 2018. Valiant Shield is a biennial, U.S. only exercise with a focus of integration of joint training among U.S. forces. This training enables real world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land and in cyberspace. Exercise Cobra Gold 2018 officially began with remarks from Pacific Command representative Lieutenant General Lawrence Nicholson, III Marine Expeditionary Force commanding general, U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand Ambassador Glyn Davies and General Thanchaiyan Srisuwan, Chief of Defense Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces. Cobra Gold 18 provides a venue for both United States and partner nations to advance interoperability and increase partner capacity in planning and executing complex and realistic multinational force and combined task force operations.
