U.S. Marine Corps Drill Instructors, Staff Sgt. Marina BurruelDelacruz and Staff Sgt. Perry Clayton, both with Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, are awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, Dec. 13, 2024. A NAM is given to members of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps for meritorious service or achievement. BurruelDelacruz and Clayton received a NAM for exemplifying unrivaled courage and extraordinary presence of mind when confronting a life-threatening emergency. The words “drill instructor, drill instructor, drill instructor” were called and BurruelDelacruz and Clayton sprang into action to save a fourteen-month-old infant who was unconscious and not breathing. Providing CPR and proper throat sweeping techniques they successfully dislodged the obstruction and the infant regained consciousness. Likely saving baby Aisla’s life. The family of the infant was onsite during the ceremony and presented the awards. The Marine Corps has served the Nation honorably for 250 years. U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Allen McDaniel and Staff Sgt. Antonio Hoggard with Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron (VMFAT) 501, speak about winning the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) Cowbell award at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina. McDaniel and Hoggard recently won the Cowbell award, which recognizes and encourages members of 2nd MAW to actively seek out and implement innovations, improvements, and best practices that enhance collective performance and readiness. Bartley and Alexia Collart, the parents of Cpl. Spencer Collart, received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal in their son's honor during a ceremony recognizing his heroic actions, Sept. 16, 2024, at Marine Barracks Washington. 20 years ago today, Medal of Honor recipient Cpl. Jason Dunham succumbed to wounds he sustained when he heroically dove on an enemy grenade – sacrificing his life for his fellow Marines. In honor of his memory, Marines and Sailors with Marine Security Force Battalion Kings Bay host the Dunham Challenge each year, a rigorous fitness event held in remembrance of Dunham and his selfless sacrifice. Chief Warrant Officer 4 Dustin Rose and 1stSgt Joseluis Mejia, two Marines who served in the same battalion as Dunham in 2004, speak on his character and his noble devotion to his Marines.
