Marines with 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division participate in integrated training exercise 1-17 from Oct. 13 through Nov. 18 at Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center Twenty-nine Palms, California. The battalion conducted multiple live-fire ranges where they were evaluated at the platoon, company, and battalion level. ITX is a bi-annual requirement and provides feedback to the battalion before deployment to different regions of the world.

U.S. Marines and Sailors with Task Force Koa Moana 16-4 integrated with the Vanuatu Mobile Force to aid in renovating a clinic that was damaged in Port Vila, Vanuatu, Oct. 26, 2016. Marines teamed up with the VMF to renovate the clinic after it was degraded by Cyclone Pam last year. Marine Corps Capt. Akinori Yonamine, and Capt. Eric McCusker, F/A-18A Hornet pilots assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 115, assisted in the live-fire sinking exercise during Valiant Shield 16, 220 nautical miles Northeast of Guam, Sept. 12, 2016. Units from the U.S. Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps participated in the sinking exercise, which provided them the opportunity to gain proficiency in tactics, targeting and live firing against a surface target at sea. This U.S.-only, biennial exercise allows the services ab opportunity to train in a blue-water environment, helping refine the military’s ability to present a seamless joint force and respond to any contingency in a timely manner.

PHIBRON-MEU Integration (PMINT) is the first of three pre-deployment training events for the ARG/MEU. PMINT aims to enhance coordinated operation between PHIBRON 5, the 11th MEU, and the three ships comprising the ARG — amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), amphibious transport dock USS Somerset (LPD 25), and amphibious dock landing ship USS Comstock (LSD 45).

Armed Forces from 13 NATO countries, including Marines with Black Sea Rotational Force and Combat Logistics Regiment 2, will gather for this exercise. They are taking part in an annual exercise to improve their ability to quickly move troops and equipment wherever the next conflict will occur.
