The Formal Marksmanship Training Center graduated new Combat Marksmanship Coaches and Trainers during the CMC/CMT Course Oct. 23 – Nov. 7, 2019 on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. The course provides the Marine Corps with trained marksmanship coaches and trainers to assist with rifle and pistol qualifications and shooting skills. Marine rifle squads are becoming more lethal, agile and adaptable. The Marine Corps will implement a new squad formation structure in order to meet the demands of future warfighting. The Marine Corps will implement a new squad formation structure in order to meet the demands of future warfighting. The future 12-Marine squad includes two new positions - an assistant squad leader and a squad systems operator. The transition to these advanced squad formations will occur in FY 2020.

Marines from 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines paired with instructors from the Division Combat Skills Center to complete the Designated Marksman course April 6-17 aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C. Marines were taught the fundamentals of long-range marksmanship and then continued to a live-fire range during the second week.

The training was part of Exercise AMERCAL 2011, and included Marines from Fox Company (aka "War Chiefs"), 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, and French soldiers stationed in New Caledonia.
