On June 6, 2021, we remember those who fought and died during D-Day, the initial invasion that started the Battle of Normandy and resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. The Normandy American Cemetery is the resting place for 9,387 Americans, most of whom gave their lives during the landing operations and in the establishment of the beachhead. The names of 1,557 soldiers are inscribed on tablets in the cemetery’s Garden of the Missing. The remains of approximately 14,000 others originally buried in this region were returned home at the request of their next of kin. U.S. Army Sgt. Robert L. Gold Team of the Golden Knights demonstrate their jump capabilities at the air show, Power in the Pines, on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, May 4th to May 6th. The "Power in the Pines" air show displays multiple branches aviation units, aviation history and how aviation units operate. This allows the public and other military branches to see how the United States Military operates, performs, and how far aviation ingenuity has come.
