U.S. Marines with the Marine Corps Rifle Team, Weapons Training Battalion, based at Marine Corps Base Quantico, compete in the 2021 National Matches at Camp Perry, Port Clinton, Ohio, Aug. 6, 2021. Sgt. Christopher Williams, was awarded the Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock Trophy, breaking the record set by Master Sgt. Julia Watson in 2013, by one point. The Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock Trophy was added to the National Trophy collection in 2003. The trophy goes to the Marine Corps competitor with the highest score in the aggregate of the Rifle President's 100 Match, The National Trophy Individual Match and the National Trophy Team Match. Sgt. Maj. John Canley — Fearless Marine to be Awarded Medal of Honor

Sgt. Maj. John Canley will become the 298th Marine to be awarded the Medal of Honor. As a gunnery sergeant during the Vietnam War, Canley took command of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, after his company commander was wounded during the Battle of Hue City. Over several days, he led his Marines while saving lives and eliminating enemy threats. Canley's fellow Marines described him as "fearless" during the war. He was originally awarded a Navy Cross for his actions. It is being upgraded to a Medal of Honor (U.S. Marine Corps video by Mat Gleeson and Ric Robinson)

Maratime Raid Force - Search and Seizure Training

BAHRAIN (April 07, 2012) - Marines with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit's maritime raid force conduct an enhanced visit board search and seizure training at a U.S. Coast Guard facility here April 7. Loud music is played within the facility to increase stress levels in the Marines and intensify the training. The MRF is the maritime interdiction element for the MEU, currently deployed as part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (MKIARG). The group is a U.S. Central Command theater reserve force. The group is also providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
