Marines with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, participated in platoon and company attacks aboard Marine Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif., Jan 22-24, 2016. The training was part of a series that will take place during Integrated Training Exercise 2-16, a Marine Air Ground Task Force sized training event led by the 5th Marine Regiment, which will forward deploy later this year with various elements to create Special Purpose MAGTF Crises Response Central Command 16.2

Corporal Michael Toomey received the Bronze Star Medal with a Combat V for valor for actions during a deployment to Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment. Toomey lead an ambush against an insurgent machine gun team. His aggressive assault caused the enemy to flee and give up the fight against the Marines.
