Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- Marines with 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment spent a day on the water; not to train, but to fish. The Marines went with local boat captains from the Fort Lauderdale Marina as part of a community relations event for Fleet Week Port Everglades. The event is held annually with fleet week and seeks to give the local community a chance to meet military members during a fun and relaxing day of deep sea fishing. Cpl. Paul Scarrfo shares his experience with Fleet Week New York 2012. Fleet Week is an opportunity for Marines, sailors and coast guardsmen to show the people of New York who the Marine, Navy and Coast Guard team are, what they do, and how committed they are to serving this country. Twenty-one U.S. and coalition ships and more than 6,000 troops will participate in the 25th anniversary of Fleet Week New York, a celebration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, May 23-30. Marine and sailor veterans from 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines Regiment ran 100 miles from Orient Point, Long Island to Ground Zero, May 26-27. The run was in honor of 48 warriors from their unit killed in Iraq in 2005 and for the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks. Available in high definition.

Eighteen-year-old, Robert Dones, of Hicksville, N.Y. has dreamed of becoming a Marine since he was 10 years old and had the opportunity to come in with the Parade of Ships aboard USS Wasp, May 23, during Fleet Week New York 2012. Several potential Marines and sailors got the chance, allowing them to get a glimpse of their perspective service before they ship to their basic training. Also available in high definition.
