BLT 2/5 is the Ground Combat Element for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, currently underway aboard the Wasp during a regularly-scheduled patrol of the Indo-Pacific region. Inserting via CH-46E Sea Knight helicopters with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (Reinforced), the Mairnes of Company G., Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, conduct a raid on a notional town. After days of laying defenses and keeping a vigilant eye, Marines of Company G., Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, saw the outline of Australian Army 1st Brigade vehicles on the horizon. Fortified in the Raspberry Creek town here, the Marines endured through simulated heavy explosive strikes, tank rounds and .50 machine guns and repelled the enemy for 16 hours outside, and eventually inside, the buildings. At the end of the day the numerically-superior force took the town, but not without sustaining heavy losses and meeting tenacious resistance by the platoon reinforced of Marines. For the first time in Pacific Command history, the Raven unmanned aerial vehicle system was launched in the Asia-Pacific region in support of Company G., Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, during Exercise Hamel 2012. Due to foreign frequency usages, clearance to utilize the Raven in PACOM has been difficult, but after much laborious planning and coordination, the Raven makes its maiden flight here in Australia.
