The Single Marine Program (SMP) is currently finishing up their annual Days of Service event, April 22-28, 2019. The event allows Marines, Sailors and civilians to come together and give back to the community by volunteering at numerous events, both on base and in the local community. Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to, building for Habitat for Humanity, assisting at animal shelters, beach clean-ups and veteran visits. SMP participants are encouraged to build partnerships with local community organizations to create opportunities and strengthen bonds between Marines, Sailors and local civilians. All commands and personnel are invited to participate, with the emphasis on allowing single Marines and Sailors the opportunity to contribute to this initiative. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to provide affordable and safe housing to families in need and to put people in homes that may not otherwise qualify for homes. The SMP offers the chance to work with organizations like Habitat for Humanity to support the local community. LONG BEACH, California (August 31, 2017) Marines, Sailors and Coast Guardsmen work alongside civilian volunteers and contractors with Habitat for Humanity to build condominiums in Long Beach, California during Los Angeles Fleet Week 2017. LA Fleet Week is an opportunity for the American public to meet their Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard team and experience America's sea services. During fleet week, service members will participate in various community service events, showcase capabilities and equipment to the community, and enjoy the hospitality of Los Angeles and surrounding areas have to offer.

More than 1500 Marines, sailors and coast guardsmen arrived in New York City to participate in this year's annual Fleet Week. The community engagement event provides the people of New York City and surrounding area a chance to see the capabilities of the sea services, the opportunity to meet with the service members and a chance to memorialize our fallen hero's.

Homes for Wounded Warriors Program teams up with Habitat for Humanity to build a house and wood shed for wounded veteran Sgt. Jesse James in Advance, Ind. Capt. Mark Trouerbach, founder of HWWP, started the non-profit HWWP so veterans can focus on rehabilitation and their lives without having to worry about a home. The house is at no cost to James. The project was started in July and was finished in mid-September. Trouerbach plans to expand the program nationwide in the coming months.
