September 11, 2001. On this day we will forever celebrate the bravery of the first responders; and grieve for the fallen citizens of this great country. Take a minute to remember the day America was attacked. Remember those who lost their lives in this shocking act of terrorism; those who fought in the ensuing conflicts; and those who never made it home. Remember those towers that once stood watch over the largest city in America. Today we remember.

Approximately 100 Marines with 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force fought off the winter chill as they supported the commissioning ceremony of the USS Somerset March 1, 2014. The San Antonio-class amphibious troop transport weighs approximately 24,900 tons fully loaded. The ship’s crew consists of 385 officers and enlisted sailors, who support up to 800 troops inside the ship’s hold. Thousands of people came from all over the country to witness the historical commissioning of the third and final troop transport built with metal salvaged after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and name in honor of those who died that day. Interviews in order of appearance: 1st Sgt. Leon M. Banta, an Oil City, Pa., native and the senior enlisted advisor for the Marine detachment at the USS Somerset Commissioning Ceremony Maj. Shawn D. Tyson, a Roseburg, Ore., native and the commander of troops for the Marine detachment at the USS Somerset Commissioning Ceremony. Also available in high definition.

Petty Officer Second Class Pasquale Antonio Troisi, a religious program specialist, died March 18 from burns sustained at a family event in Pennsylvania, February 20 while on leave. Troisi was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and assigned to 9th Communication Battalion. He recently returned home from a deployment to Afghanistan. A memorial was held at the Blinder Memorial Chapel where friends and families joined to commemorate their lost loved one. Produced by LCpl. Scott Reel. Also available in High Definition.
