Blount Island Command and Marine Corps Support Facility Blount Island in Jacksonville, Fla., were recognized as Voluntary Protection Programs Star sites by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration during a ceremony, Oct. 16. BICmd is the first operational organization to be recognized with this status. MCSF Blount Island is the third Marine Corps installation to earn the VPP star.

Sgt. Andres Burgos, a native of Orlando, Florida, is competing at the 2014 Warrior Games on the Marine team. Burgos is a veteran and is competing in shooting and archery. Marine team has been training since September 15 in order to build team cohesion and acclimate to the above 6,000 ft. altitude of Colorado Springs. The Marine team is comprised of both active duty and veteran wounded, ill and injured Marines who are attached to or supported by the Wounded Warrior Regiment, the official unit of the Marine Corps charged with providing comprehensive non-medical recovery care to wounded, ill and injured Marines. The Warrior Games are a Paralympic-style competition for more than 200 wounded, ill and injured service members and are taking place September 28 to October 5 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Marines with Transportation Support Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, Regional Command (Southwest), engaged in some friendly competition to unwind after nearly 20 hours of continuous operations at Forward Operating Base Shir Ghazi, Helmand province, Afghanistan, Oct. 19, 2013. The Marines arrived at the FOB later than expected after conducting a combat logistics patrol from Camp Leatherneck.

Marines with Transportation Support Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, Regional Command (Southwest), conducted convoy operations to Musa Qala, Helmand province, Afghanistan, Oct. 22, 2013. The servicemembers conducted resupply and backhaul operations as part of a five-day mission through the province.

Engineer Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 6, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, completed a long awaited deconstruction project at Twentnine Palms, Calif., ahead of schedule. The engineers demolished a tank forward operating base during their pre-deployment exercises, finishing a project layed out five years earlier. Available in High Definition.

The city of Zaranj is located on the Iranian border and is one of Afghanistan's most vital trading links to the rest of the world. The port of entry generates about 100 million dollars a year. Building a new customs facility will help increase the traffic flow and prevent illegal goods from crossing over the border. All U.S. funded projects in Afghanistan require all Afghan workers to be entered into the Biometric automated toolset system (B.A.T.).
