As 2016 comes to a close, the Marines and Sailors of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South are looking ahead to another very busy and productive year. The men and women of MARFORSOUTH were engaged throughout Central America, South America and the Caribbean, whether it was training with other naval infantry forces or providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief support for Hurricane Matthew in Haiti.

Joint Task Force Matthew service members continue to respond to the devastating effects of Hurricane Matthew at Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Oct. 15, 2016. JTF Matthew, a U.S. Southern Command-directed team, is comprised of over 400 Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen, supporting the U.S. Agency for International Development’s disaster relief operations in Haiti during the critical early stages after the island country was struck by Hurricane Matthew.

Partner nations strengthen interoperability during phase II of Exercise Tradewinds 2016 at Up Park Camp, Jamaica, June 20-28, 2016. Regional challenges require a cooperative solution, and Tradewinds provides the opportunity for all participants to collaborate together and ensure collective security.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Rylan Burchell, hospital corpsman, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, was selected as Marine of the Week for his unit aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif., Dec. 19. Burchell is studying for the Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Specialist exam and preparing for his qualification board. Burchell, 25, is from Kingston, Jamaica. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl.
