Service members from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni recently donned a flak jacket and grabbed an M-16 for a squadron field exercise. The event included fire team patrol, combat medic, and automatic weapons training. Marine corporal Joshua DeFour went downrange to bring you the story.

Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing conducted M249 Squad Automatic Weapon qualification training aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Jan. 25, 2017. The mission of MWSS 271 is to provide all essential aviation ground support requirements to any designated fixed-wing component of the aviation combat element. More than 50 Marines with 2nd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group 28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing cycled through weapons qualifications during an M240 Bravo machine gun, M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun range at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Aug. 29-30, 2016. The exercise allowed Marines to re-familiarize themselves with the weapons and qualify on them. The primary missions of the battalion are to provide low altitude ground-to-air weapon support and provide ground security for air bases.

Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force, attend a Basic Machine Gunner's course at the Combat Skills Training school at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Jan. 18-29, 2016. The Marines with CLB-7 are from Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms. This is a unique training opportunity for the Marines to interact with their 1st Marine Logistics Group counterparts. The BMG course is a two-week-long class which covers the nomenclature and application of the M240B machine gun, M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, M2 .50 cal machine gun and the Mk 19 grenade launcher.
