Kirstein has been serving in the Marine Corps for 23 years and this is her tenth occasion serving as the adjutant for a Marine Corps ball. In honor of the Marine Corps birthday, Cadets from Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Kubasaki High School wore various uniforms that Marines have fought and died in during their 242 years of exemplary service.

Marines from Detachment 1, Communications Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 45, 4th Marine Logistics Group, of Peru, Ind., delivered a birthday cake and a signed letter from the Commandant of the Marine Corps to Mary Cochrane for her 100th birthday.
