A brush fire which began on Thursday afternoon at range 409A in the northeastern portion of the base has burned 800 acres aboard Camp Pendleton as of this evening. Working as part of a Unified Command, Camp Pendleton Fire Department and CALFIRE conducted aerial and ground firefighting operations at the northern end of base through the night with the fire currently contained at 35 percent. Since winds are blowing in a northerly direction, the fire is not posing threats to structures or personnel. Approximately 500 personnel in the unified command have used a variety of methods to fight the fire to include strike teams, dozers, aircraft and brush trucks.

The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing helped San Diego agencies put out several fires that have ravaged the county. The unit used CH-53E Super Stallions, KC-130J Super Hercules', UH-1Y Hueys and CH-46E Sea Knights to help combat the fires throughout the area. Also available in high definition
