The famous adage, “in peace time and war, there will always be mail call” is taken very seriously at the post office aboard Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni. The Post Office Marines keep organized to make sure every package is properly sent and receieved. Sergeant Joshua DeFour arrived priority to send us the story. Video contains interviews with Marines from Hopewell, Va., Lake Charles, La., and Portland, Ore.

U.S. Marines and master labor contractors with Marine Corps Installations Pacific Marine Corps Base Camp Butler Postal, distribute packages on Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 20, 2024. The MCIPAC Postal Operations Center is responsible for sending mail abroad and distributing incoming military mail to all post offices on Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, U.S. Army Garrison Torii Station, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, and U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa. During the holidays, MCIPAC MCB Camp Butler Postal increased their working hours over 72-hour holiday liberty periods and regularly processed up to six full-sized trailer trucks each day. The Camp Foster Post Office is responsible for processing outbound mail and holds incoming mail for all civilian personnel and service members who own P.O. boxes on Camp Foster. This year, the post office has seen a significant increase in the use of parcel lockers and P.O. boxes to deliver over 5,000 packages to customers in the year and handle up to 6,000 pounds of mail every day. U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Sophie Perry, a postal clerk with Marine Rotational Force - Darwin participates in a quarantine working party at the Royal Australian Air Force Base Darwin in NT, Australia, June 19, 2020. Perry, a Dayton, Ohio native, performs a variety of duties including the oversight of distribution of mail, financial services, procurement of supplies, and dispatching. The Marines supply the quarantined MRF-D personnel with essentials. Marines wear personal protective equipment and practice a decontamination process upon exiting quarantined areas. “Under the circumstances of COVID-19, it has been a challenge for us to do our job as postal Marines because of the lack of flights and their schedules constantly changing. Right now, our mission is to work under the situation at hand and find ways to get mail here and distribute it to the Marines and sailors. Coming out here, there are billets I have not had the chance to do at my parent command, so being in this higher-tempo training environment is exciting because we will be able to learn more from each other as well as the Australians we get to work with.” MRF-D enables U.S. Marines and the ADF to enhance regional security, strengthen alliances and partnerships, and increase the ability to rapidly respond to crises throughout the region.
