Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton officials host a dedication ceremony for rebuilt cottages at San Onofre Beach at Camp Pendleton, California, Aug. 15, 2019. Every year, reconnaissance Marines from every clime and place venture to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., to participate in the annual Recon Challenge, bringing with them the memory of their fallen brothers. Over the course of a 25-mile trek through the unforgiving Camp Pendleton terrain, participants of the challenge had to complete various obstacles and events, and at the end of their journey, hung a single dogtag on a combat cross in commemoration of past Marines who fell while serving this nation. The first Thursday each month San Onofre Elementary school assembles with the staff, students and parents to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and to sing patriotic songs like the National Anthem, Marines' Hymn, Anchors Away and You're a Grand Old Flag. This month veterans were also invited to attend the ceremony in honor of Veterans Day
