The city of San Clemente holds a Memorial Day event at Semper Fi Park with the support of Camp Pendleton Marines, May 30. Keynote speaker Brig. Gen. Edward D. Banta, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations – West, spoke to the audience and reminded them to cherish the sacrifices made by military service members, past and present.

Commanding General of Marine Corps Installations West, Brig. Gen. Edward D. Banta, visited Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, Calif. He toured the installation and met with Marines and Civilian Marines at McCarver Hall aboard the base to introduce himself and to conduct a question and answer session with base employees.

Approximately 100 Marines with 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force fought off the winter chill as they supported the commissioning ceremony of the USS Somerset March 1, 2014. The San Antonio-class amphibious troop transport weighs approximately 24,900 tons fully loaded. The ship’s crew consists of 385 officers and enlisted sailors, who support up to 800 troops inside the ship’s hold. Thousands of people came from all over the country to witness the historical commissioning of the third and final troop transport built with metal salvaged after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and name in honor of those who died that day. Marines and sailors with 2nd Marine Logistics Group ran approximately 3 miles to celebrate the Marine Corps birthday on Nov. 10 aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., Nov. 5. After completing the run, the commanding general and sergeant major of 2nd MLG reminded the Marines and sailors about the culture of the Marine Corps and explained the 13th commandant’s Marine Corps’ birthday message.
