U.S. Marines and Sailors participate in a foreign weapons range conducted by Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group in Moyock, North Carolina, Sept. 17, 2019. U. S. Marines attend a Foreign Weapons Familiarization Course on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, April 1 – 4, 2019. The Marines were instructed and tested on assembly, disassembly and handling of Soviet era, German and Belgian assault rifles, machine guns and other weapons to enhance proficiency in completing missions with challenging problems. The Marines who participated in the course were from 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment; 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment; 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group; Expeditionary Operations Training Group, III MIG; 3rd Intelligence Battalion, III MIG; 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, III MEF; and Marine Corps Base Range Control. Bulgaria, Moldova, U.S., and Ukraine attend an exercise hosted by Romania called Platinum Eagle. Black Sea Rotational Force’s participation in Platinum Eagle allows training with multiple partner nations and is crucial in dealing with regional issues and keeping peace in the Eastern European region.

Marines with Task Force Southwest fired the AK-47 and PK general-purpose machine gun as part of pre-deployment training at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Jan. 18, 2017. Approximately 300 Marines with the unit are preparing for a deployment to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, where they will train, advise and assist the Afghan National Army 215th Corps and 505th Zone National Police to continue building well-equipped defense and security forces.
