Mr. Shigeaki Mori, a prominent Japanese historian and a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, observed the 80th anniversary of the B-24 Lonesome Lady crash in Ikachi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, July 28, 2025. The event served as a remembrance for Japanese and American causalities from two different events in the same region on the same day in 1945. Following Lonesome Lady’s crash, eight American prisoners of war were detained, six of whom later lost their lives in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Lance Cpl. Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni residents traveled to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park as part of a Cultural Adaptation Program event in Hiroshima, Hiroshima, Japan, April, 26, 2019. The Cultural Adaptation Program hosted the event to allow residents an opportunity to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and meet Kikuko Shinjo, a WWII atomic bomb survivor. Beating the Odds: 956 Days Becoming a Marine

Lance Cpl. Caleb Eudy began recruit training in 2016. One month later, he was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. He returned to Alabama and underwent cancer treatments. After two years, his cancer went into complete remission and he was cleared by a medical board to return to MCRD Parris Island. Eudy is scheduled to graduate with Charlie Company April 26, 2019. Laid to rest: Oldest Pearl Harbor survivor passes away

Chief Quartermaster Raymond Chavez, the eldest surviving member of Pearl Harbor, passed away. His ceremony was held at the St. Michael’s church in San Diego, Dec. 13. Chavez was aboard the USS Condor during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941, and passed away at the age of 106 on Nov. 21, 2018. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Cpl. Preston Hightower)

Recruiting Sub Station Myrtle Beach poolee Michael Campofiori explains what he had to overcome to be given a chance to go to Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot Parris Island for the chance to become a U.S. Marine. Campofiori, from Brick Township, N.J., has been wanting to become a Marine ever since he was a child, but at the age of 11, he was diagnosed with Leukemia, a medical condition that threatened not only his possibility of joining the Marine Corps, but his life. Video Package about a former Marine and survivor of the attacks on Pearl Harbor being laid to rest with his fallen comrades. Frank Cabiness survived the attack on the USS Arizona. On Dec. 23, a dive team placed his remains in the hull of the sunken ship, where more than 1,000 of his shipmates died on Dec. 7, 1941. Cabiness is the 35th survivor, and just the second Marine, to be interred on the USS Arizona
