Marines, Sailors Participate in Non-Lethal Weapons Course

Marines and sailors with 2nd Law Enforcement Battalion and 8th Marine Regiment conducted Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray training during a two-week long non-lethal weapons instructors course at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Sept. 30, 2015. The purpose of the training was to build confidence in the Marines and sailor's abilities to proficiently employ the OC spray, which is a lachrymatory agent, during policing, riot control, crowd control and self defense when necessary. U.S. Marines and sailors aboard Marine Corps Base-Camp Smedley D. Butler take part in Security Augmentation Force Training from Dec. 2 to 12, 2019 on Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. Camps Foster, Plaza and Lester requires a SAF in order to adequately protect the installation, personnel and interests during periods of increased Force Protection Conditions (FPCON). The Provost Marshal’s Office conducts SAF training in order to maintain a force with the ability to increase Camp Foster, Plaza and Lester’s security posture as the mission requires. U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (May 11, 2018) – U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment (BLT 2/6), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), participate in non-lethal training conducted by the Law Enforcement Detachment (LE) aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), May 11, 2018. The 26th MEU and Iwo Jima amphibious ready group are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region. U.S. Marines with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Africa conduct non-lethal weapons training aboard Morón Air Base, Spain, May 6, 2016. Each Marine was exposed to oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray and sent through a course of aggressors to test their ability to execute non-lethal martial arts techniques while under the effects of the spray. The week-long training evolution in preparation for bilateral training with French Gendarmerie, covered civil disturbance techniques, crowd control tactics and escalation of force drills in order to build proficiency in non-lethal tactics.
