U.S. Marines are in Senegal working alongside Senegalese armed forces partners, mentoring and advising a demining course for the West African nation. A group of explosive ordnance disposal technicians with Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa, began assisting Senegalese engineers as part of the Humanitarian Mine Action Program, Feb. 15, 2016, at Camp Moussa, an engineer training base, in Bargny, Senegal.

Nearly 100 Marines and sailors with Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa established an evacuation control center for an exercise in Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy. The exercise prepared the crisis response unit for a military assisted departure mission. The passenger terminal used hosted a real ECC 19 months ago when SPMAGTF-CR-AF, assisted in the evacuation of U.S. personnel from the U.S. embassy in Tripoli, Libya. U.S. citizens and embassy personnel traveled by ground convoy to neighboring Tunisia, before being flown to NAS Sigonella, where they were processed through the ECC before moving on to other locations.

U.S. Marine explosive ordnance disposal technicians with Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa and Uganda People's Defense Force soldiers completed a basic demolition course together at Camp Singo, Uganda, Dec. 1, 2015. The Marines and UPDF improved demolition capabilities as they prepare for their African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

The Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa Marines and sailors are prepositioned in Moron Air Base, Spain, and Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy, to respond to missions in permissive and uncertain environments to protect U.S. personnel and property and interests in the respective areas of responsibility. They also deploy security cooperation teams to various partner-nations in Africa to train with our African partners' militaries to help promote regional stability and strengthen the bonds among the nations.

U.S. Marines and sailors with Special-Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force Crisis Response-Africa are teaching small-unit infantry tactics to Benin National Surveillance Police students in Cotonou, Benin. At the request of the Benin government and coordination with the local U.S. embassy, Marines and sailors are providing the National Surveillance Police the tools and capabilities to help counter illicit trafficking on the country's borders.
