On Sept. 11, 2017 U.S. Marines with Marine Rotational Force Darwin played a rugby match against the Darwin Stray Cats Rugby Club to honor and remember the lives lost during the terrorist attacks on 9/11. The match has become an annual event to commemorate the friendships made during a rugby match that took place between U.S. Marine and sailors with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Stray Cats on September 11, 2001. Despite never having played wheelchair tennis before, retired U.S. Navy Chief Yeoman Javier Rodriguez and his teammate, U.S. Army veteran Roosevelt Anderson, took on the challenge at the 2016 Invictus Games in Orlando, Fla. They advanced to the semi-finals. Rodriguez, a native of Bayamon, P.R., is also competing in wheelchair basketball.

Retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Michael Kacer is representing the USA at the 2016 Invictus Games in Orlando, Fla. Kacer and Team US took home nine medals in the indoor rowing competition. Kacer is also competing in the swimming and track & field events.

Gonzaga Bulldogs and the Pittsburgh Panthers faced off in the 2015 ESPN Armed Forces Classic Nov. 14 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. The teams were able to experience life in the Marine Corps here on Okinawa.
