U.S. Marines and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force personnel teamed up for this year’s Active Shield training on Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. Lance Cpl. Military working dogs have been a crucial part of military operations since World War I. The selection and training process for military working dogs is extensive and rigorous; only the best are chosen to be a part of America’s fighting forces. Once they make it through training, they provide an auxiliary asset to military law enforcement units, to include drug detection, explosive detection or escalation of force support. Training is conducted on a daily basis to keep them sharp for future operations.

Lutyo is a military working dog aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. Besides being one of the best drug detection dog aboard the station, Lutyo enjoys his down time.

Marines with the Camp Pendleton Provost Marshal's Office patrol the base to keep residents safe.
