Cpl Edgar Harrell was stationed aboard the USS Indianapolis during WWII. He was promoted July 29th but couldn't pin on the rank until the ship arrived at the Philippines. But on July 30th, the ship was struck by two Japanese torpedoes, stranding 900 men at sea. The next four and a half days just under 600 men would die from dehydration, hypothermia, shark attacks and saltwater poisoning. Now, 73 years later, due to the efforts of Capt. Scott Montefusco of the Utah Military Organization, Harrell was finally promoted to the rank of sergeant. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Sgt. Jamie Arzola). Members of the Indianapolis Colts, including Head Coach Chuck Pagano and Punter Pat McAfee, visited the Camp Hansen USO in Okinawa, Japan, Saturday, Feb. 20, as a part of their 2016 USO tour. While visiting Camp Hansen’s USO, there was a cake cutting ceremony, a meet and greet with the football players, and the opportunity for USO patrons to win prizes and take pictures. Brig. Gen. John M. Jansen, the assistant deputy commandant for Programs and Resources at Headquarters Marine Corps, made an appearance and spoke at the event.

Marines with Recruiting Station Chicago, 9th Marine Corps District, attend the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, Feb. 14-22, at McCormick Place in Chicago. The show, which is on its 107th iteration, contains more than one-million square feet of car exhibitions and family entertainment and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
