Navy Captain Peter Ruocco, commanding officer with 1st Dental Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, and Master Chief Petty Officer Anna Wood, the command master chief of 1st Dental Bn., speak about the second annual Suicide Prevention Awareness Walk held at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Calif., Sept. 23, 2016. The corpsmen play an important role in the fight. The unique and historic relationship between corpsmen and Marines is unique. Sailors and Marines from Marine Forces Reserve gathered together to celebrate the U.S. Navy’s Hospital Corpsman’s 118 birthday at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif., June 17, 2016. The Sailors and Marines have been training diligently during Integrated Training Exercise 4-16, but also wanted to pause to recognize the distinguished history and service the hospital corpsmen have provided over 118 years.

On behalf of III Marine Expeditionary Force, we wish a happy 118th birthday to all Navy Hospital Corpsmen June 18, 2016. Corpsmen, or "Docs", are a big part of our Marine Corps family and play a much bigger role than we think.

HM2 Ryan Handyduncanson and LCDR Jeffrey Hoyle were presented with the Dean Christensen and the LT. J. G. Osborne Memorial Awards for their hard work and dedication during deployment. The awards are presented annually by the Marine Corps association to recognize a dental officer and a hospital corpsman serving with Marines.
