Hard Corps Jobs: Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsmen are highly-trained corpsmen who serve in the Marine Corps force reconnaissance community. SARCs provide reconnaissance teams and other units advanced trauma management associated with combatant diving medicine, parachute entry and combat trauma. SARCs regularly act as point men, sharpshooters, radio operators and team leaders in recon teams and platoons.

The Marine Corps and the Office of Naval Research tested out new augmented reality technology at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Dec. 13, 2016. The Augmented Immersive Team Trainer is designed to train forward observers on how to better work with artillery as a cohesive unit known as a joint terminal attack controller. The AITT enables the Marine Corps to train faster, cheaper and more efficiently. The story includes interviews with Lance Cpl. Kenneth Overstreet, a Fire Support Marine with 2nd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division and Capt. Kevin Fitzsimmons, the Weapons Company Commander with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.

Sgt. Brandt Kinder, an Avionics Technician, with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, takes values he's learned from being a Marine and applies them as a role model for the next generation of BMX riders. Steel Knight 2017 is a two-week, division-level, exercise in California and Arizona that is currently underway. Marines and Sailors with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command were greeted by family and friends as they returned to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton from a nine-month deployment to the middle east.

Maxine Russell, an Orange County resident, has been sending care packages to Marines overseas and on deployment for nearly thirty years in remembrance of her deceased son, Darren "White Rabbit" Russell. Marines from I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group conducted an operational pause for professional development November 28,2016. The operational pause allowed the Marines to reflect on what they are doing well and what they can improve upon. The Marines heard from Trevor Hoffman, a future hall of fame baseball player about possessing a champion mindset. Marines and civilians with Marine Corps Systems Command gave training on the second-generation Ground Renewable Expeditionary Energy Network System, or GREENS, which converts solar energy into electricity, at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Oct. 25, 2016. The training, part of the “Great Green Fleet” campaign, was part of the Navy and Marine Corps’ efforts to transform energy while decreasing fossil-fuel consumption.

FAOONE, Tahiti -- U.S. Marines and sailors with Task Force Koa Moana 16-4 integrated with French forces during an exercise in Faoone, Tahiti, Sept. 22, 2016. 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company conducts military operations and casualty evacuation drills aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Sept. 1, 2016. The training involved assaulting simulated targets and extracting casualties via two Navy MH-60R Seahawks.

Marines with 1st Reconnaissance Battalion execute combat marksmanship program at Camp Pendleton from Aug. 29 to Sep. 1, 2016. Experienced Marines from the Battalion maintained and improved their shooting skills and the new members of the unit learned basic skills through the CMP shooting. Corpsmen with I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Groups trained how to deal with multiples casualties at the time during I Marine Expeditionary Force Large Scale Exercise 2016. The corpsmen play an important role in the fight. The unique and historic relationship between corpsmen and Marines is unique. MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif., (Aug. 16, 2016) Marines with Security Forces Platoon, I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group (I MHG), execute a mass-casualty drill during I Marine Expeditionary Force Large Scale Exercise. The priority of the platoon was to secure the perimeter and transport the casualties to the first aid station to get medically treated by hospital corpsmen. PHIBRON-MEU Integration (PMINT) is the first of three pre-deployment training events for the ARG/MEU. PMINT aims to enhance coordinated operation between PHIBRON 5, the 11th MEU, and the three ships comprising the ARG — amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), amphibious transport dock USS Somerset (LPD 25), and amphibious dock landing ship USS Comstock (LSD 45).

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- U.S. Marines with Koa Moana 16-4 apply techniques learned from a Counter Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) course on Camp Pendleton June 25, 2016. The Marines were taught CIED skills in preparation for Koa Moana 16-4. During the course, Marines learned basic IED detection and marking techniques for use in a combat environment which increases the probability of survival. The Koa Moana exercise seeks to enhance senior military leader engagements between allied and partner nations in the Pacific with a collective interest in military-to-military relations and to discuss key aspects of military operations, capability development and interoperability in the South Pacific.
